A short wave infrared quartz emitter is a high-intensity heat source consisting of a tungsten coil filament sealed inside a quartz tube. Operating at color temperatures up to approximately 4,100°F, it emits energy in the short-wave infrared spectrum (0.78–1.4 µm), delivering instant-on response and 96% radiant efficiency ideal for rapid industrial heating and drying processes.

Short-wave emitters use a tungsten filament and heat up instantly, making them ideal for applications requiring rapid cycling. Medium-wave emitters operate at lower temperatures with a slower warm-up and are better suited for heat-sensitive materials. Fast medium-wave emitters offer a compromise — quicker response than standard medium-wave with lower peak temperatures than short-wave, useful for delicate substrates.

Fannon Products' short wave infrared quartz emitters are rated for 5,000+ hours of operation. Service life depends on operating conditions such as voltage consistency, mounting orientation, and duty cycle. Horizontal and vertical mounting are both supported, and the quartz construction provides good resistance to thermal shock, further extending functional life.
